Inquam is a protected e-mail system designed for users who cannot read and write, or, who have other limitations or disabilities. Inquam  uses a  pictographic language in which Icons provide a common vocabulary for users to converse even if they cannot read. All that is required to use Inquam is a computer with Internet access.

Inquam has voice capability and can read messages to the user. This helps them with vocabulary skills, and encourage them to use the system. To try it out, click on the Logo on the lower left corner of this page and load the browser plug-in which will let your computer speak. Next, roll your mouse over the Icons on this page to see what Inquam will say.

Ideal candidates for Inquam users are:

Inquam users should have the ability to move a mouse and understand and follow limited instructions. The caregiver customizes the icon set the user sees, and as the users vocabulary increases more icons are easily added to the list. This process enhances the users communication skills while letting them have fun at the same time.
